Police Find Handgun in Iowa Man's Car After Traffic Stop

Retail Theft
Steven Dunlap, 50, of the 600 block of East 144th Place, Dolton, was arrested and charged with retail theft after an incident Saturday at Walt’s Food Store, 2345 W. 183rd St., according to Homewood police reports.

The store’s security officer claimed he saw Dunlop take two boxes of Alka-Seltzer, totaling $14.58, from the shelf and hide them in his jacket, the report stated. Dunlop was stopped by the security officer after he tried to leave the store without paying for the medication, the report added.

Identity Theft
Doronte Cooper, 27 of the 100 block of West 157th Place, Harvey, was arrested and charged with felony identity theft Friday in connection with trying to use a fake credit/debit card to get a cash advance at TCF Bank, 17830 S. Halsted St., according to Homewood police reports.
Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon
Michael Daniel, 22, of Des Moines, Iowa, was arrested and charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, driving with a suspended license and driving with expired registration after a traffic stop Friday, according to Homewood police reports.
Police pulled over Daniel after noticing his expired registration, the report stated. During the stop, a license check revealed that Daniel’s had been suspended, and he was taken in to custody, the report added.
A property inventory of the Daniel’s vehicle uncovered a camouflage book bag containing a Hi-Point .380 caliber handgun and a magazine with five live rounds in it, the report stated.
