Rabid Bat Found In Homewood: Cook County
The bat was found Sept. 16, Cook County officials said.
HOMEWOOD, IL — A bat found in Homewood Sept. 16 has tested positive for rabies, Cook County officials said Thursday.
The bat was found in the vicinity of the 800 block of Elder Rd., officials said. It was tested for rabies and determined rabid by the Illinois State Public Health Laboratory.
Residents are reminded to keep dogs, cats, and ferrets on a leash when outside the home. All animals should be current on rabies vaccinations.

Residents should not handle bats, skunks or other wild animals. If a bat or skunk is found down or dead on your property, residents should contact the Cook County Department of Animal Control at (708)974-6140.
