Thornwood Girls Basketball Coach Suspended After IHSA Investigation
Kevin Green is suspended from the first 3 games of the 2022-23 season after officials said he allowed a non-high school player on the bench.
SOUTH HOLLAND, IL — Thornwood High School's girls basketball coach Kevin Green has been suspended from the first three games of the 2022 to 2023 season following an Illinois High School Association investigation that found the coach of six years violated IHSA rules.
A spokesperson for the IHSA told Patch the organization began investigating Green in January after the parent of a former player on Thornwood's team accused the coach of bringing a transfer student onto the team who did not live in South Holland.
Officials said they did not find any evidence Green violated rules related to transfer students, but said the former Seton coach violated another rule that prohibits non-high school athletes from sitting on the bench at a high school sports game.

According to the spokesman, a younger player who was not on Thornwood's team was allowed to suit up and sit on the bench during the game.
"The school administration welcomed the investigation and was cooperative and forthcoming throughout the process," a statement from Craig Anderson, executive director of IHSA said. "Additionally, the school administration has submitted a plan to prevent future violations from occurring."
