Thornwood High School Junior Shot To Death, Friend Injured: Cops

Hazel Crest police said 16-year-old D'Edward Phillips was shot to death outside his father's home last Monday while talking to a friend.

HAZEL CREST, IL — A Thornwood High School junior was killed last week while he stepped out of his father's house to talk to a friend, according to police.

Last Monday, two teenagers were struck by gunfire outside a Hazel Crest home. According to police, one of the teenagers was at his father's house when a friend stopped by briefly to talk.

When the teen, later identified as D'Edward Phillips by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, turned to walk back inside after speaking to his friend, someone fired multiple gunshots from a moving car.

While the other teenager was grazed, Phillips was hit by several bullets, dying on his father's front steps.

Police told Patch they have still not identified the shooter but believe Phillips was targeted and that the shooting was an isolated incident.
