Tornado Watch Issued for Cook, Will Counties

Watch issued in addition to extreme heat advisory.

The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for much of the Chicago area Saturday, lasting until 10 p.m.

The watch includes Boone, Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kankakee, La Salle, Lake, Livingston, McHenry and Will counties in Illinois, as well as Jasper, Lake, Newton and Porter counties in Indiana.

The watch is in addition to a heat advisory, in effect until 8 p.m. Peak heat indices will range from 105 to 110 degrees, with temperatures in the middle 90s, the NWS reports.

“The combination of heat and humidity will create oppressive conditions which may cause heat-related illnesses to develop due to prolonged exposure,” warns the NWS, “particularly the elderly and those with pre-existing health conditions.”

The hottest hours on Saturday began at 1 p.m. and end at 5 p.m.
