Two 16-Year-Old Boys Arrested In Connection With Carjacking

Police said a passenger was waiting inside a car Tuesday night when a person got into the driver's seat and pointed a gun at the passenger.

HOMEWOOD, IL — Two 16-year-old boys were arrested in connection with a carjacking Tuesday night in Homewood, police told Patch.

According to officials, a person was waiting in the passenger seat of a car parked outside a store at 17500 Dixie Highway when someone got into the driver's seat, pointed a gun at the passenger and told them to get out of the car.

The passenger got out, and the person drove away with the car, a white Nissan Altima that had been left running while the driver went to get something.

Homewood police later saw the car around 10:30 p.m. near Interstates 88 and 294. Illinois State Police and Homewood police stopped the vehicle and arrested two 16-year-old boys inside.

Police did not immediately respond to questions on when the second boy entered the vehicle.

Both boys are facing charges of aggravated vehicular hijacking and possession of a stolen vehicle, while one is facing additional charges of unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated fleeing and eluding a police officer.

Police said both boys are in custody at the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center while they await bond hearings.
