U.S. Cellular to Shut Homewood Store
The closures are tied to the company's decision to sell its Midwestern markets to Sprint Nextel. U.S. Cell customers will need to switch phones to keep their service.
The U.S. Cellular retail store in Homewood will close by the end of May as part of the company's $480 million sale of its Midwestern markets to Sprint Nextel, according to Southlandsavvy.com.
The local store is at 17741 S Halsted St. Other store closure locations include Country Club Hills, Countryside, Crestwood, Oak Lawn, Chicago, Lansing, Joliet, Olympia Fields, Evergreen Park, Matteson and Orland Park.
All told, the company will close nearly 70 outlets in Illinois and Indiana in a process that will start May 17 and could be completed in about two weeks, according to a story in the Chicago Tribune.
