Veterans Day 2017: What's Open, Closed In Homewood, Flossmoor

Find out how the holiday will affect local agencies, institutions and services Friday.

This year, Veterans Day is officially Saturday, Nov. 11, and while events honoring U.S. military men and women will be held this weekend, many institutions around Homewood and Flossmoor will observe the holiday Friday.

Here's a look at how some places and services in the villages will be handling Veterans Day:

Schools: No classes for Bloom Township High School District 206 and Rich Township High School District 227 schools. However, Flossmoor School District 161 and Homewood-Flossmoor High School District 233 schools will have classes. Homewood School District 153 schools will have early dismissal.

Village Governments: Homewood and Flossmoor village offices will be open. County, state and federal government offices will be closed, though.

Flossmoor Public Library: The library will be open.

Homewood Public Library: The library will be open.

Postal Service: No mail delivery, and all post offices will be closed.

Banks: Most financial institutions will be closed. Call ahead to be sure.

Retailers, Restaurants, Bars and Other Businesses: Most will be open, but check hours ahead of time.
