HARVEY, IL — A woman has been charged with reckless homicide in the death of a 4-year-old girl last year after witnesses said she was on her cell phone when her car jumped a curb and fatally hit the child.

Harvey police announced the charge against the driver, Swaleha Vhora, on Tuesday. Police said Vhora had three young children in her car during the Sept. 8 crash. That day, officers responded to a playground near Whittier Elementary School.

Preliminary investigation revealed Vhora's car went over a curb, through a fence and hit the swing set that 4-year-old Violet Singleton was playing on.
