Abigail McKoy, a junior at Huntley High School, secured second place in the State for the Illinois American Legion Oratorical Contest this past Saturday, March 1st. Abigail's first oratorical speech was a prepared speech about popular sovereignty as the foundation of the U.S. Constitution. She then delivered a speech on the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. Abigail's victories in the local Huntley American Legion competition, Illinois Division, and the State of Illinois have earned her nearly $2,500 in scholarships towards college.

The American Legion Oratorical Contest was established to develop knowledge and appreciation for the U.S. Constitution among high school students. Former U.S. Vice President Mike Pence was a notable competitor in the American Legion Oratorical Contest.

Huntley American Legion, Post 673 hosts the local High School Oratorical Contest in December each year.
