Christina Smith, Amanda Sarrol, Zachary Rogers, and Alexix Jones each received a $500 scholarship from Rotarian, James Drendel, and gifts from the Rotary Club of Huntley, at a celebration breakfast with the students and families, April 30th at Village Inn restaurant on the square in Huntley.
Dr. Marcus Belin, Principal and Laura Martens, College, and Career Counselor, gave inspirational comments, followed by a presentation of the Thom Palmer Park and Recreation $500 scholarship, sponsored by Ken and Karen Black, by Thom Palmer, for Madelyn Hanson who will be studying Crop Sciences at U of I, Urbana-Champagne.
Community service was a strong selection consideration for all five students whose fields of studies range from Business, Legal studies, and Physical Theraby, to Pre-Med. Students spoke enthusiastically about their study choices and Zachary Rogers said he wanted to be a doctor all his life and used to wear a medical mask while playing doctor. Amanda Sarrol, who attended RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award), said RYLA training taught her “Service promotes purpose within.”
