SOTP Commits to Adopt-A-Highway Program

Volunteers complete first project of cleaning portion of Jim Dhamer Drive in Huntley

Looking for an additional way to give back to the community and help keep Huntley clean and beautiful, Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church has “adopted” the stretch of Huntley roadway on Jim Dhamer Drive from Sandwald Rd. to Hennig Rd.(.55mi) and has committed to keeping it free of litter.

Volunteers were ready and eager to clean the assigned area for the first time recently on Saturday, May 17. “We answered the call of the Village of Huntley to participate in its Adopt-A-Highway Program,” said Jim Saletta, coordinator of the project at Shepherd of the Prairie. “It’s a great way to make a meaningful impact, enjoy time outdoors, and show pride in our hometown. We’re proud that a sign recognizing SOTP’s contribution is placed along our route.”

The Village of Huntley provides volunteers with safety vests, gloves, and garbage bags. After each cleanup, filled bags are left roadside and then collected by members of the Village’s Public Works Department. Saletta looks forward to the twice a year project and invites other volunteers at
