LASALLE COUNTY, IL — A 36-year-old passenger in a minivan driven by a Joliet man was killed in a crash involving a semitrailer Monday night on Interstate 80 near Ottawa, according to police.

The incident occurred around 6:45 p.m. on the eastbound interstate at milepost 86, police said. The van, driven by a 30-year-old from Joliet, hit the back of the semi, then left the road and overturned, according to police.

The adult passenger died at the scene and five children who were passengers were seriously injured and flown to a hospital, police said.
