JOLIET, IL — A total of three people suffered gunshot wounds on Thursday night at a location that has been the subject of multiple Joliet police calls already this week — the former Evergreen Terrace housing projects, now called the Riverwalk Homes apartments.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, at 9:47 p.m., officers responded to Riverwalk Homes Apartments in the 300 block of North Broadway Street for a report of a large group gathered outside the apartment buildings causing a disturbance.

Officers heard gunfire coming from the Broadway Street entrance of Riverwalk Homes as they arrived, English said. Upon entry into the complex, the officers discovered a 30-year-old man with gunshot wounds to both legs.

All three victims were rushed to area hospitals by the Joliet Fire Department. The 30-year-old victim was listed in serious condition, with the other two victims believed to be in stable condition, English revealed.

"Preliminary investigation of this isolated incident indicates that two of the injured males are alleged to have been actively involved in the shooting," English said.

Both are under police guard at area hospitals. A gun was recovered near the scene, and Joliet's detectives are reviewing surveillance video and evaluating additional evidence. Two vehicles were also reported damaged by gunfire during the incident. Spent shell casings were recovered from the scene, according to the Joliet police press release.
