3 Teens Shot In Joliet, Boy, 15, Responsible For Shootings: JPD

JOLIET, IL — A total of three teenagers suffered gunshots around 5:30 a.m. on Sunday and two of these victims are now hospitalized at Loyola Medicine Children's Hospital in Maywood, in what Joliet police are calling an isolated incident.

"This case is considered an isolated incident, and there is currently no threat to the public," Joliet police spokesman Tizoc Landeros pointed out.

A 15-year-old boy was arrested and brought to the Will County River Valley Justice Center on charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, reckless discharge and unlawful possession of a weapon.

At about 5:30 a.m., Joliet's officers were dispatched to the 300 block of South Ottawa Street in response to reports of three people shot. The residents in the neighborhood told the officers the injured shooting victims were being transported to the hospital.

Officers later met with the three juvenile victims—two 16-year-olds from Joliet and one 14-year-old from University Park, at the hospital.

One of the victims, a 16-year-old from Joliet, was airlifted to Loyola Children’s Hospital in critical but stable condition. The second victim, a 14-year-old from University Park, was driven to Loyola Children’s Hospital in stable condition. The third victim, also a 16-year-old from Joliet, was treated and subsequently discharged, according to Landeros.

He said the investigators and officers identified a person of interest, a 15-year-old from Joliet, who was brought to the Joliet Police Department. The investigation revealed that this juvenile was the individual who discharged the weapon, Landeros announced.

Following processing, he was transported to the RVJC.
