'I Cannot Go Back To Work Until Clearance From The Spine Surgeon,' Joliet Beating Victim Tells Judge

JOLIET, IL — A 39-year-old man who drove all the way from Skokie to inflict a severe beating upon a 42-year-old Joliet homeowner at the victim's front porch, according to court files, is now the subject of a stalking no contact order issued by Will County Judge Ted Jarz.

Joliet Patch is the only news outlet covering the case involving Joliet felony defendant Amed Hodzic, who was arrested by Joliet police on July 21. Hodzic put his victim inSilver Cross Hospital after causing great bodily injury and trying to strangle someone, court files reflect.

As Patch reported earlier this week, Will County Judge Derek Ewanic rejected efforts by the Will County State's Attorney's Office to send the aggravated battery criminal defendant to the Will County Jail under the SAFE-T-Act even though prosecutors revealed that his victim sustained a break in the 12th thoracic vertebrae of his neck, a broken nose and a concussion.

Meanwhile, a different Will County judge, Theodore Jarz, has issued an emergency protection order against Hodzic. The order forbids the Skokie man from having further contact with the victim or the victim's house in the 1000 block of Magnolia Avenue.

"I was advised to complete this form. I am trying to prevent a second incident," the Joliet victim wrote in his stalking no contact order.

According to court filings, Jarz was informed that at 6 a.m. on July 21, "Amel Hodzic came to my home banging on the front door. I answered the door asking 'Can I help you?' as I never met Amel prior to this incident. Amel stated he wanted to talk to my girlfriend ... Amel's soon to be ex-wife. Amel then tried to enter my home by pushing past me," court documents state.

"I pushed him back onto the porch," the Joliet victim recounted for the judge. "(My girlfriend) then came out by the front door. I was asking Amel why he was here? Amel was repeating himself, 'You left me for this mother f*****?' (My girlfriend) ran to the bedroom to get her phone. Amel put his hand around my neck and we struggled ... Amel headbutted me and I blacked out and fell to the ground."

The victim also informed Judge Jarz: "The next thing I remember, I woke up in the ambulance. I was hospitalized at Silver Cross Hospital from July 21 to July 22 for a broken nose, a concussion and broken T12 vertebrae. I cannot go back to work until clearance from the spine surgeon."

According to the order of protection, Hodzic comes from the 8700 block of Avers in Skokie. He works at Colohouse, LLC., a data center and services company.

The next hearing on the order of protection is set for 9 a.m. on Sept. 10 in Courtroom 603.
