JOLIET, IL — The Joliet Police Department arrested a 58-year-old man on Friday afternoon in connection with allegations of stealing merchandise at the Walmart store on West Jefferson Street.

Police spokesman Dwayne English noted that Paul Schenk was charged with retail theft, and also faces an outstanding Champaign County arrest warrant.

According to the police, at 1:54 p.m., Joliet's officers responded to the Walmart at 2424 West Jefferson for a retail theft. The Walmart employees had detained Schenk he had placed nearly $60 worth of merchandise in his clothing and then exited the store without paying, English noted.

Schenk was placed into custody without incident. Officers learned that Schenk also held an active arrest warrant from Champaign County for failing to appear in court on a previous criminal charge. He was processed at the Joliet Police Department and then transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.
