JOLIET, IL — It does not happen often, but the Joliet police were called to the recently rededicated Route 66 Park on Broadway Street, where an arrest was made. Santos Herrera, 31, of Joliet, was arrested on charges of aggravated battery to a police officer.
According to the arrest reports compiled by police spokesman Tizoc Landeros, at around 7 p.m. June 29, officers were dispatched to the 300 block of North Broadway Street in response to a report of someone refusing to leave the property.
Upon arrival, they encountered Herrera, who was bleeding from the face. He appeared to be intoxicated and was uncooperative with the officers, his arrest report noted.

Although he stated that he had been attacked, he refused to disclose the identity of the people responsible, according to police. The Joliet Fire Department was called to provide first aid for Herrera, who police say continued to be belligerent toward the officers and paramedics, saying he did not want their assistance.
Landeros said that Herrera was removed from the ambulance and instructed to leave the property. He continued to provoke the officers, attempting to incite an arrest, and began to chest-bump the officers and was taken into custody, according to police.
