Attempted Murder Case Filed Against Ex-Con Already in Jail For Gun Convictions
He is scheduled to be sentenced for the gun case on Friday.

JOLIET, IL — An ex-convict already in the Will County jail and awaiting sentencing for a gun case was charged Wednesday with attempted murder.
Damon Cook, 25, was also charged with the aggravated discharge of a firearm and aggravated battery with a firearm. The sheriff’s department brought the case against Cook but would provide no information about it Wednesday.
Cook stood trial for his gun case and was found guilty in December. He was convicted on charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful use of a weapon, and being an armed habitual criminal.

The case stemmed from a shootout between the occupants of two vehicles, police said at the time. Cook was arrested with two other men following the July incident.
Cook’s sentencing is scheduled for Friday.

Cook was released from prison in September 2015. He served time for possessing a firearm as a felon and the possession of a controlled substance.
