Big Trouble At MorningStar Mission Lands Joliet Man In County Jail: JPD

JOLIET, IL — The Joliet Police Department announced that a 40-year-old man from the community was arrested in recent days following a disturbance at the MorningStar Mission.

Authorities said that Antwon Williams was taken to the Will County Jail on charges of aggravated battery to a peace officer, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, criminal trespass and disorderly conduct.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, on July 25, at 5:37 p.m., the officers responded to MorningStar Mission at 350 East Washington Street for a disturbance. While en route, he said that the officers were advised that a man was fighting others outside the facility.

Upon arrival, the officers saw a man matching the suspect description, later identified as Williams, outside the shelter entrance. As the officers approached, English said that Williams attempted to walk away and he became uncooperative when advised he was being detained.

He then took a fighting stance toward one of the officers and was placed into custody, the agency noted.

According to English, Williams had entered the shelter in an agitated state and threatened others in the building. Williams is also accused of punching another man.
