Biggest Joliet Building Fire In November: Fire Department Provides Update

Joliet Fire Captain Burke Schuster said that companies responding included crews from Stations 1, 4, 5, 6, and Battalion 2.

JOLIET, IL — Joliet Fire Department Captain Burke Schuster has issued a press release in regard to Monday morning's building fire less than two blocks from the city's main fire station.

At 9:36 a.m., the Joliet Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a building fire at 224 E. Cass St. Crews arrived on scene within two minutes and discovered a three-story building with thick black smoke coming from the roof.

Firefighters quickly accessed the roof and found roofing materials burning. The fire was extinguished, and crews conducted a thorough check to ensure there was no extension into the building, according to Schuster.

He said that the building is currently undergoing renovations and was unoccupied at the time of the incident. No injuries were reported. All fire units cleared the scene and returned to service within an hour. Fire companies responding included crews from Stations 1, 4, 5, 6, and Battalion 2.
