Broken-Jawed Thief Doesn't Let Elaborate Medical Device Stop Him From Stealing: Cops

The thief and his lady friend were caught with two ripped off rump roasts and some stolen bottles of aftershave, police said.

JOLIET, IL — A thief with a broken jaw was not about to let his medical condition hold him back, police said, as the cops caught him and his lady friend driving around with a couple ripped off rump roasts right after he stole some aftershave from a dollar store.

Charles Jones, 57, was caught while he was making his getaway from the Dollar General on West Jefferson and William streets.

Two Dollar General employees reportedly flagged down passing police officers and told them of a shoplifter absconding with aftershave in a Ford Taurus. Officers quickly caught up with the car and pulled it over, police said.

During the traffic stop, police said, the officers noticed two “very large rump roasts” sticking out of a pocketbook. The officers also reportedly found two bottles of Gillette aftershave and another three bottles of Skin Bracer aftershave. The aftershave had been stolen from the dollar store, police said.

It was not clear where the rump roasts came from. Police believe they were stolen from a Jewel or Walmart.

A woman riding in the car, 34-year-old Heather McCaffree, was linked to the theft of four bottles of Dove soap from the New Lenox Walmart, according to the Joliet police.

Jones was also wanted for allegedly stealing from the West Jefferson Street Walmart in January. He failed to appear in court for the case March 23, according to county records.
