Cappel Leads Deane-Schlottman In 49th District: Election Results
Voters took to the polls to choose Democrat Meg Loughran Cappel or Republican Katie Deane-Schlottman as their 49th District senator.

JOLIET — Voters took to the polls Tuesday to decide whether Shorewood Democratic incumbent Meg Loughran Cappel woul.d remain the state senator for Illinois's 49th District or if Republican challenger Katie Deane-Schlottman would unseat her. According to the unofficial totals from Will and Kendall Counties, Cappel defeated her challenger by double-digit percentage points.
Polls closed at 7 p.m. in Illinois.
The 49th State Senate District includes all or parts of Joliet, Plainfield, Bolingbrook, Romeoville, Shorewood, Oswego, Crest Hill, Boulder Hill, Naperville, Montgomery, Aurora and Channahon.

Loughan Cappel, a former Joliet Township High School board member and former special education teacher with Joliet District 86, was first elected to office in 2020.

Cappel, Deane-Schlottman Vie For 49th District Seat: IL Election 2024
49th District Election Results: with 100 percent of Will County and Kendall County precincts reporting:
- Meg Loughran Cappel: 48,838 votes, 56 percent
- Katie Deane-Schlottman: 38,048 votes, 44 percent
