She allegedly stole the money over the course of a year and a half.

WILMINGTON, IL — An employee of a Wilmington car dealership squirreled away more than $100,000 in stolen funds over the course of a year and a half, police said.

Misty Hook, 40, was booked into the Will County jail Friday on charges of felony theft.

Hook stole the money from D'Orazio Ford in Wilmington from January 2013 through August 2014, according to a criminal indictment filed in Will County court.

Hook worked for D'Orazio Ford until she resigned in August 2014, police said. A new general manager reportedly “noticed some discrepancies in financials” and the police launched an investigation.

Officer Matt Kiebles determined that Hook was “responsible for the cash that was handled through the dealership, and had been very careful not to let anyone else get involved in that process,” said Police Chief Phillip Arnold.

“It was a long and painstaking investigation that relied not only on numerous interviews, but very heavily on forensic audits,” Arnold said. “In addition to the dealership records, discrepancies were also found in Hook's personal bank accounts.”

The indictment against Hook was filed Thursday. The indictment carried a $300,000 bond.

Hook remains in custody at the county jail.
