Joliet Police Officer Tyrell Hundley Opening New Business Called Rage Cage In 2026
Tyrell Hundley's family has owned the storefront along Joliet's North Chicago Street for decades.

JOLIET, IL — When Tyrell Hundley is not busy responding to Joliet's emergencies, helping residents or chasing after the bad guys, the Joliet police officer is focused on his next business venture, one he hopes gives teenagers and adults something fun, adventurous and exciting to do in Joliet.
Hundley is opening Joliet's first rage room, which will be called the Rage Cage.
He said it's a business concept that is catching on and gaining popularity in other Chicago area communities such as Naperville and Oak Brook and it's time that Joliet has one, too.

Over the winter, when Hundley is off-duty from his Joliet Police Department duties, he's busy remodeling his family's storefront at 173 North Chicago Street — across the street from Joliet's most popular coffee shop, Jitters.
"Rage Cage is about more than breaking things. It's about release, reset and mental wellness," Hundley informed Joliet Patch's editor. "Every day, I see how much stress people carry, whether it's from work, family, finances or life in general.

"Rage Cage is designed to be a safe, controlled space where people can let that go in a healthy way."

In recent years, Hundley used his downtown Joliet storefront as a retail store for Joliet Kreamers, which was an online sneaker group where people buy, sell and trade all sorts of shoes. After he joined the Joliet Police Department in 2023, Hundley returned the Joliet Kreamers to an online business venture, which he continues to operate with another long-time business partner.
In 2023, Dan Duffy, whose mother owns and operates Jitters Coffeehouse, relocated his professional sign-making business called Duffy Signs into the empty Joliet Kreamers storefront. However, in recent months, Duffy Signs moved into a different downtown Joliet location on East Cass Street, creating the vacancy Hundley will be filling with his Rage Cage.
As for Hundley, these days, the Joliet Police Department has assigned him to patrol the downtown area.
"As a police officer, I understand how critical it is to have positive outlets, spaces that help prevent stress from turning into something harmful," he explained. "Downtown Joliet is evolving and I wanted to be part of that growth, not somewhere else, but right here. Investing in the city is my way of giving back to the community that raised me and shaped who I am.
"I'm proud to continue my family's legacy in this space to bring something new and positive downtown, and to show that Joliet is a place where young entrepreneurs can build something meaningful. This isn't a business opening for me, it's a full-circle moment. I'm incredibly grateful, blessed and honored to contribute to the next chapter of downtown Joliet," Hundley explained to Patch.
Hundley told Joliet Patch his Rage Cage will also be available for corporations and businesses as "a team-building event."
"Just go and relieve stress," he suggested. "It's a way of therapy in a sense."
Hundley envisions opening his Rage Cage for guests in March — April at the latest.
He plans to keep it open Thursdays through Sunday, weekdays from 4 to 10 p.m. and noon to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Inside the Rage Cage, visitors will wear protective gear and safety goggles as they attempt to smash TVs, toasters, plates, glasses and more. Guests will be given sledgehammers and hammers to run around different rooms inside at least three different rage rooms trying to break stuff.
"We are teaming up with a few junk companies," Hundley revealed.
Hundley said the opening of his Rage Cage coincides with the city of Joliet's opening of the new downtown City Square park less than two blocks away.
"I want to keep people in Joliet downtown because they will come here and eat and go to the Rialto," Hundley remarked. "So this will be perfect for a date night idea."
