“The charges and arrest stem from an incident that took place at Jones’ residence in rural Porter Township on July 24, 2016,” the sheriff’s office said. “Jones’ then 7 month old son was transported to a Hobart Hospital and later transported to Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago when he showed signs of neurological damage and swelling of the brain.”

The charges were filed against Jones on Thursday but he took off from Indiana, the sheriff’s office said. The police then “received information that Jones ... was staying in Mokena, Illinois, with his new girlfriend.”
