JOLIET, IL — The Joliet Police Department responded to the Walmart store on West Jefferson Street last week to make an arrest, detaining a combative and aggressive 35-year-old Joliet citizen, Armondo Arredondo, on multiple charges, including two counts of aggravated battery to a police officer, resisting or obstructing a police officer, obstructing justice, obstructing identification and retail theft, his arrest reports show.

According to Joliet police's Tizoc Landeros: on June 18, at about 10 a.m., Joliet officers were dispatched to the 2400 block of West Jefferson, where Armondo Arredondo was concealing merchandise in his pockets. The officers met with the loss prevention officer and saw Arredondo placing merchandise in his pockets.

When the loss prevention officer tried to stop Arredondo as he was exiting the store, he tried to push past the loss prevention officer. The officers assisted him in apprehending Arredondo.

Arredondo was escorted to the loss prevention office to provide his information. He supplied the officers with a false name and date of birth. As they gathered his information, Arredondo became combative and began to push against the officers towards the exit, Landeros noted.

He refused to comply with the officers' commands and was subsequently taken to the ground.

Arredondo was taken to the Joliet Police Booking area. While the officers were processing him, he disrobed and spat at them, Landeros noted.

He removed one of his sandals and threw it, striking an officer in the chest. He continued to be combative and spat on two officers. Although he did put some of his clothing back on, he refused to cooperate with the booking process and was subsequently taken to the Will County Jail.

Arredondo has now been in the Will County Jail three times since 2024. His other previous Will County Jail detention happened back in 2014. Arredondo comes from the 500 block of Joliet's Hillside Road.

Jail records indicate that Will County's judges ordered Arredondo's release from the county jail facility on Friday.
