Councilman McFarland Giving Away Smoke Detectors
McFarland and other volunteers are also willing to assist in properly installing the new smoke detectors for residents.

From City Councilman Jim McFarland:
Joliet City Councilman Jim McFarland is not taking this month’s fire prevention theme of “Hear the beep where you sleep, every bedroom needs a working smoke alarm” lightly. He’s offering free smoke alarms to residents who need them.
“In a fire, seconds count,” McFarland explained. “Half of home fire deaths result from fires reported at night between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. when most people are asleep.”

“Home smoke alarms are essential in alerting people to a fire before it spreads — saving lives by giving residents enough time to get out,” McFarland said. “I hope this program helps to protect and keep our residents safe.”
All smoke detectors will be purchased personally by Councilman McFarland.
