County Executive Larry Walsh Visits New Will County Courthouse

Walsh's visit marked the one-year anniversary since the groundbreaking of the courthouse.

County Executive, Larry Walsh, paid a visit to the site of the new Will County Courthouse on December 19. Walsh was on hand to thank members of organized labor for their work on the structure. The day also marked the one-year anniversary since the groundbreaking for the new courthouse.

“There has been astonishing progress on this project in just one year’s time,” Walsh said. “We are thankful for the many local members of organized labor who have worked tirelessly and without any incidents on this courthouse. It is exciting to see how this courthouse has become a focal point for downtown Joliet.”

The new courthouse is on the grounds of the former First Midwest Bank building and takes up an entire block at 370,000 square feet. After the groundbreaking a year ago, the foundation for the courthouse was then laid earlier this year in February. The steel structure was complete last month thanks to the hard work of the members of organized labor.

The total costs for the new 10-story building is an estimated $215 million. The courthouse will be energy efficient and include advanced technology.

“Our new county courthouse is a welcome addition to Joliet, our county seat,” said Walsh. “We are proud of the partnership with the City of Joliet to make this vision a reality.”
