Cousin Slashed Cousin in Thigh During Argument: Cops

The woman slashed her cousin with either a razor or a knife, police said.

JOLIET, IL — A Joliet woman slashed her cousin’s thigh with either a knife or a razor, opening up an eight-inch gash, police said

The wounded woman told police that she and her cousin, 32-year-old Diane La Treese Jeffries, argued on Dora Avenue shortly before 9 p.m. Tuesday.

During the argument, Jeffries allegedly produced a blade and slashed her 38-year-old cousin. She then took off in a sport utility vehicle.

The cousin was taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox. Police searched the city for Jeffries and reportedly found her about three hours later when she returned to the scene of the crime.

Officers followed Jeffries’ SUV from Dora onto Woodruff Road where they pulled her over and took her into custody, police said. Jeffries was arrested and taken to the Will County jail.
