Crest Hill Inn Strangling Defendant Regains Freedom From This Will County Judge
Although Crest Hill defendant Carlos Alfaro is accused of aggravated domestic battery including an attempted strangling, he is free again.

CREST HILL, IL — Despite a petition submitted by the Will County State's Attorney's Office of Jim Glasgow, Will County Judge Sherri Hale has ruled against efforts to keep 42-year-old Carlos Alfaro of the Crest Hill Inn detained in the Will County Jail even though Alfaro is accused of trying to strangle a woman he knows.
This week, Glasgow's office charged Alfaro with aggravated domestic battery, aggravated battery and domestic battery in connection with last weekend's incident at the Crest Hill Inn on Plainfield Road. Alfaro is accused in the criminal complaint of strangling the woman and grabbing her about the neck.
In Monday's ruling, Judge Hale ordered Alfaro's release from the Will County Jail and as a pretrial condition, Alfaro was ordered to stay away from his victim as well as the Crest Hill Inn. Judge Hale also placed Alfaro on electronic monitoring.

His next court hearing is set for June 26 in Courtroom 405.
According to the prosecution's unsuccessful petition to deny pretrial release, at 9:41 p.m. on Saturday, Crest Hill police officers responded to the Crest Hill Inn for a domestic. Officer Nicholas Calderon spoke with the victim who told him that Alfaro came home from work, and they had an argument. The argument led to Alfaro choking her, which obstructed her breathing.

"Carlos held onto her neck for approximately one minute, before being pushed off and leaving. (She) had red scratch marks on both sides of her neck including fingernail indentations ..." the court records show. The woman told the officer that her five children saw the violent attack.
Meanwhile, Officer Gorz found Alfaro walking and spoke to him. Alfaro claimed the woman pushed him in the chest, so he grabbed her neck with one of his hands and applied moderate pressure, the prosecutors outlined. Alfaro told the police that he knew that she was pregnant but he was not sure if it is his child.
As for the scratches Crest Hill police saw on Alfaro's arm, he told the officers that the woman caused them during a prior domestic incident.
