DEA Agents Shoot Armed Man During Operation Outside Louis Mall: Cops

The wounded man is in custody and there is no threat to public safety, police said.

JOLIET, IL — Federal agents shot an armed man during an investigation outside the Louis Joliet mall, police said.

The wounded man was in custody Tuesday evening and there is no threat to public safety, said Joliet Police Chief Brian Benton.

Agents with the Drug Enforcement Administration shot the man about 5:30 p.m. while conducting an investigation outside the mall, Benton said.

Special Agent Leo Hawkins, the DEA’s Chicago spokesman, declined to comment or provide information on the shooting Tuesday evening. Hawkins said information would be made available later.
