JOLIET, IL — For the third year in a row and fourth time since 2018, 40-year-old Joliet resident Darryl Moore finds himself inside the Will County Jail. From his latest Joliet police arrest, Will County's prosecutors have charged Moore with aggravated domestic battery, two counts of aggravated battery and two counts of domestic battery.

Will County Judge Ken Zelazo agreed with the prosecution's recommendation that Moore remain incarcerated under the SAFE-T-Act. According to the filing, at 6:37 a.m. Friday, June 27, Joliet police responded to Moore's residence in the 400 block of Division Street, where the female caller to 911 was overheard yelling, "I can't breathe. I'm pregnant."

After two Joliet police officers arrived, one advised the victim to open the door so they could make sure she was OK. The officers saw two different sets of feet under the door, one wearing gym shoes and the other person barefoot. Eventually, the victim was heard claiming she was okay and just got home from work, according to prosecutors.

"We told her we needed to see her or we would have to force entry. At that point, Officer Espinosa could see the male place his body against the door as if to block it," police wrote, prosecutors outlined.

Meanwhile, Joliet Police Sgt. Matt Breen and fellow Sgt. Szymanski arrived as the officers talked to a neighbor. The neighbor heard yelling and objects being thrown. Eventually, the victim agreed to open her door, and she had injuries to her neck and right arm, police said. Court documents indicate she was bleeding and there were scratches and bruises around her neck.

She "initially stated her injuries were from her job, nursing home, and her neck injury came from falling on the bed and hitting her neck on the mattress," prosecutors revealed. "While JFD was speaking with (her) she stated she was pushed in the stomach. Officers played Darryl Moore under arrest at that time."

At the Joliet police booking area, Moore told the officers he got into an argument with the woman over her son, prosecutors said. He insisted he did not put his hands on the woman and "the defendant claims the visible injuries came from (her) job and potentially (their son) as he is very physical with climbing all over both of them," prosecutors noted in their petition.

As of July 1, Moore remained in the Will County Jail.
