Drunk Driver Fled to Bar After Crash, Fell Out of Pickup, Found Sprawled in Parking Lot: Cops

He was still on the ground when the cops arrived, police said.

JOLIET, IL — A drunk driver sideswiped a parked car, police said, then fled to a Meeker Avenue bar, where he fell out of his pickup truck and lay sprawled in the parking lot.

Abel Alvarado, 66, was still flat on the ground with his driver’s side door ajar when the law arrived, police said.

Alvarado sideswiped a car parked on Royce Avenue about 7:45 p.m. Sunday, police said. The owner of the car reportedly happened to witness this, and he ran after Alvarado’s Chevy Silverado.

A relative of the vehicle owner picked up the running man and they followed the pickup to Los Diaz bar on Meeker, police said. They also called the cops.

The vehicle owner and his relative then watched as Alvarado opened the driver’s side door of his truck, stepped out and fell to the ground, police said. Alvarado was still down when officers arrived, according to police.

Alvarado was taken to the Will County jail.
