Election Day In Will County - County Board Seats Contested

Though there are technically six district seats on the Will County Board being contested on Tuesday,

JOLIET, IL — While voters across the state will go to the polls today to decide the electoral fates of congressional and presidential candidates, there's one race in Will County that's a bit closer to home. The Will County Board primary. Seats in six county districts are up for grabs. While candidates for some seats are running unopposed, there are both Democratic and Republican hopefuls gunning for others. Here is a list of the contested districts, their incumbents, their challengers, and those county board members not seeking re-election:


  • District 1: Vote for one (two-year unexpired term)
    • Challenger: Kelly Dettlaff (Republican, from Monee)
    • Also: Judy Ogalla (R-Monee) - not running; term expires 2022
  • District 3: Vote for two
    • Challengers:
      • Richard Gougis III (Democrat, from Romeoville)
      • Raquel Mitchell (Republican, from Bolingbrook)
      • Joel Brown (Democrat, from Romeoville),
    • Also: Elizabeth Rice (D-Bolingbrook) - not running; term expires November 2020
  • District 8: Vote for two
  • District 10: Vote for two
    • Incumbent: Tyler Marcum (D-Joliet)
    • Challenger: Natalie Coleman (Democrat, from Plainfield)
    • Also: Gloria Dollinger (R-Joliet) - not running; term expires November 2020
  • District 12: Vote for two
    • Incumbents:
    • Challengers:
      • Erin Moncek (Democrat, from New Lenox)
      • JoAnne Hamilton-Gunkel (Democrat, from Mokena)
  • District 13: Vote for two
    • Incumbent: Mark Ferry (D-Plainfield),
    • Challengers:
      • Mica Freeman (Democrat, from Plainfield)
      • Debbie Kraulidis (Republican, from Joliet)
      • Gerald Smith (Republican, from Plainfield)
    • Also: Tim Kraulidis (R-Joliet) - not running; term expires November 2020

Before going to the polls, voters should check to make sure their polling places haven't changed - or if they have, to where they were relocated. Over the course of the past week, several polling places that were inside retirement homes or schools were relocated due to coronavirus concerns.

Will County residents can also look up their home polling location by entering their address at the County Clerk's Office website.

Same Day Voter Registration

Those who wish to vote but are not currently registered, can still register and vote today. However, they can only do so at their home polling precinct. Those who wish to register to vote or update their address on election day must bring two pieces of valid identification to their polling place; one form of ID must display a current address. Those unsure if they're registered to vote or not can check on the County Clerk's Office website.

According to the County Clerk's Office, valid IDs include driver’s licenses, state ID cards, utility bills, checkbooks, library cards, credit cards, birth certificates, social security cards, employee ID cards, student ID cards, and insurance cards.
