As the officers attempted to assist Geiler, he became aggressive toward them and began making threats to harm the officers, police said. Eventually, English said, Geiler threw down a bag that he was holding and approached officers in a threatening manner, asking the officers to tase him.

Officers tried to place Geiler into custody, and say he then tried to repeatedly pull away to avoid being handcuffed. Officers deployed a Taser, which was ineffective and Geiler continued to struggle with officers.

According to police, Geiler suddenly gave up and placed his arms behind his back and was taken into custody without further incident.

Geiler was not found to be in possession of a knife, police said. Geiler was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department for an evaluation.

Geiler was issued his notice to appear in court at the hospital.
