Facebook Marketplace Robbery Leads To Joliet Police Arrest: Cops

The victim's boyfriend ran after Denwiddie, and Joliet police believe Denwiddie indicated he was armed and threatened to shoot the victim.

JOLIET — For the fourth time since 2020, Amarion Denwiddie is being kept in the Will County Jail, this time his latest arrest by the Joliet Police Department surrounds allegations of a robbery.

Joliet police say Denwiddie, who comes from the 100 block of North Raynor Avenue, is now being kept in detention in charges of aggravated robbery and two counts of theft.

Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English outlined the following sequence of events as leading to Denwiddie's capture over the weekend:

  • Last Thursday, at 6:49 p.m., the officers responded to the 900 block of Richards Street for a robbery. The officers learned that an adult victim had previously posted an iPhone 15 for sale on Facebook marketplace.
  • Denwiddie contacted the victim on Facebook and expressed interest in purchasing the phone. Both agreed to meet in the 900 block of Richards Street to complete the sale of the phone.
  • The victim and her boyfriend arrived and met with Denwiddie and as he was handling the phone to inspect it, and he then ran from the victim with the phone.
  • The victim’s boyfriend ran after Denwiddie, and it is believed that Denwiddie indicated that he was armed and threatened to shoot the victim’s boyfriend. Denwiddie got away at the time.
  • Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Denwiddie on Friday morning, and Denwiddie was placed into custody without incident at 2:06 p.m. during a traffic stop near Eastern Avenue and Washington Street after Denwiddie was identified as the passenger in the vehicle.
