Fire On Oneida Street: Homeowner Escapes Through 2nd Floor Window
Joliet Fire Department crews remained on the scene for 2 hours extinguishing hot spots and checking for extension.

JOLIET, IL — Battalion Chief Jim Batusich issued a press release revealing that the Joliet Fire Department helped people escape from an overnight house fire on the west side.
He said that at 12:45 a.m., the Joliet Fire Department responded to the 300 block of Oneida Street for a structure fire in a two-story residence. Company 5 arrived within 3 minutes of the call and found heavy fire and smoke coming from the structure.
Batusich said that one person was inside at the time of the fire. He was able to exit a second-floor window to the roof of the porch. The homeowner kept a ladder on the porch in case he ever had a fire at his residence.

Crews performed a interior attack on the first and second floor of the structure. The structure sustained heavy fire, smoke and water damage.
Joliet Police arrived on the scene prior to the Fire Department and were able to use the ladder to assist the homeowner from the roof of the porch. The homeowner was taken to St. Joes hospital with minor injuries. Crews remained on the scene for two hours extinguishing hot spots and checking for extension.

Fire crews from stations 1,4,5,6, and 8 responded to the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
