Firecracker Dog Killer Shot Gun at Human Being: Cops

A man charged with blowing the face off a dog with a firecracker fired a gun at a person, police said.

The Joliet man charged with blowing the face off a pit bull doesn’t just like shooting firecrackers, police said.

Nicholas Garcia, 24, has a warrant out for his arrest for allegedly firing a gun “in the direction of another person.”

On top of the the single count of aggravated discharge of a firearm, Garcia was hit with a second offense since he is a felon and isn’t supposed to have a gun in the first place. He was arrested on an armed robbery charge when he was 17 years old, according to court records. He pleaded guilty, was sentenced to seven years in prison, and was released three years later.

The new warrant for Garcia’s arrest carries a $750,000 bond.

Garcia has already put up $17,500 in bail since he was arrested last month for allegedly tossing a firecracker to a pit bull. The dog picked up the firecracker and it exploded in the pit bull’s mouth, killing it, police said.

While he was out on bond, Garcia allegedly got caught driving around with even more fireworks and pot in his car. Garcia was released on his own recognizance but was carted off to jail when he made his next court appearance. Prosecutors had succeeded in getting his bond increased.

Garcia again made bond and enjoyed a full week of freedom before getting locked up once more on Monday for failing a court-ordered drug test. He was in custody about 12 hours before posting $10,000 bail.
