JOLIET, IL —A middle of the night burglary over the weekend on Joliet's Glenwood Avenue has resulted in the capture and Will County detention of 58-year-old Chicago native Darryl Jones. Joliet police said he's charged with criminal trespass and residential burglary.

According to police spokesman Dwayne English, at 2:37 a.m. on Saturday, fellow officers responded to a home in the 2100 block of Glenwood Avenue for a burglary. A man, later identified as Jones, was located inside the home after the residents returned home, English noted.

Upon returning from picking up a family member from the airport, the homeowner discovered the front door appeared to be forced open. The homeowner initially checked the home and did not locate anyone. However, as the rest of the family entered the house, they discovered Jones walking up the basement stairs, English announced.

Jones left when the resident called 911. The residents discovered that jewelry and money was missing from the home. Officers located Jones about a block away and placed him into custody without incident. Upon search of Jones, English said the officers recovered the cash and jewelry believed to be taken from the Glenwood Avenue home.

Jones was processed at the Joliet Police Department and then transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.
