Grandma Beaten By Granddaughter After Babysitting Great-Granddaughter For 5 Days: Cops

The old woman was taken to the hospital after her granddaughter threw her to the floor, police said.

JOLIET, IL — A 74-year-old great-grandmother was hospitalized after her granddaughter broke into her home and tossed her to the floor, police said.

The old woman’s granddaughter, 26-year-old Nieshia Tyler, had dropped off her 8-year-old daughter at the woman’s Chase Avenue home on Wednesday and didn’t come back for five days, police said.

When she did, about 3:15 p.m. Monday, Tyler broke through the locked screen door, police said, and was “cursing and screaming” as she threw her great-grandmother to the floor. She then reportedly fled with her child in a brown car.

The great-grandmother complained of head and neck pain and was taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, police said. She reportedly gave the cops Tyler’s address on Bluff Street. Officers found her there and arrested her.

Tyler was booked into the Will County jail on charges of aggravated battery to a senior citizen and criminal damage to property.
