The wounded man was taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox and then transported to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood. Police said the shooting left him paralyzed.
Witnesses reportedly told officers they believed the gunman’s first name was Maurice, police said, and video surveillance from the gas station showed the gunman’s car and part of its license plate number.
A warrant for Richards’ arrest was obtained Friday and tactical officers staked out his house that night waiting for him to emerge.
Detectives believe Richards shot the man down over a woman.
Richards is scheduled to appear in court Monday morning. His bond was previously set at $750,000.
