Harley Motorcycle Crash Shut Down Route 53 In Joliet Near Racetrack

The roadway was closed for over two hours while Joliet Police Department traffic investigators reconstructed the crash scene.

JOLIET — One day after Crest Hill police investigated the death of a 40-year-old Lockport man on a scooter, Joliet police handled a Harley-Davidson wreck on South Chicago Street at Millsdale Road that led to serious injuries for the motorcycle rider, a 64-year-old Hobart, Indiana man.

Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said the following events happened around 6:50 p.m. on Saturday:

Officers responded to the intersection of South Chicago Street and Millsdale Road for a traffic crash with injuries. A Harley Davidson motorcycle was southbound on South Chicago Street approaching Millsdale Road in the outside lane. A Chevrolet Silverado truck driven by a 44-year-old Joliet man attempted to initiate a left turn from eastbound Millsdale Road to northbound South Chicago Street.

The motorcyclist then struck the driver’s side of the truck. The motorcyclist was taken to Silver Cross Hospital by the Joliet Fire Department with serious injuries, which were later learned to be non-life threatening.

The driver of the Chevrolet was uninjured in the crash.

The roadway was closed for over two hours while Joliet Police Department traffic investigators reconstructed the crash scene. No citations have been issued as this crash remains under investigation by the Joliet Police Department Traffic Unit.
