Heritage Trail Family Reading Night Brings Out Parents, Students, Fairy Tale Characters

The event promotes literacy with students and within families.

JOLIET, IL — Troy Heritage Trail Elementary School was whirling with the gowns of fairy tale princesses, the long robes of wizards and the costumes of other famous characters from books, as the school recently celebrated Family Reading Night.

Wyatt and his parents Heather and Ray attended the event to hear teachers and other school staff read books, to make crafts and play games, and to browse a book fair.

Principal Brooke Allen, who attended dressed as Cinderella, said the event promotes literacy with the students and within the families.

“It’s a great way to strengthen the home-school connection,” Allen said, “and to model early literacy activities.”
