Heroin Dealer Runs Across Plainfield Road To Escape Police: JPD

JOLIET, IL — For the third time since October, former Shorewood resident Leroy Devine finds himself locked up in the Will County Jail, the latest incident saw the 35-year-old Minooka drug dealing defendant darting the busy and dangerous Plainfield Road trying to avoid the Joliet police officers, who captured him during a violent struggle, the arrest reports show.

This week, the Minooka man from Central Avenue remains now in the jail where he is charged with four counts of possession of controlled substances with intent to deliver, four counts of possession of controlled substances, possession of drug paraphernalia and having one outstanding Will County arrest warrant.

On March 12, at 6:36 p.m., Joliet police saw Devine exiting the Crest Hill Inn at 2109 Plainfield Road. Officers had prior knowledge that Devine held an active Will County arrest warrant for a burglary.

When Joliet police tried to arrest Devine for the warrant, he dropped a bag he was carrying and ran across Plainfield Road and continued to ignore commands to stop.

Upon crossing the road, Devine was taken to the ground and placed into custody following a brief struggle. Upon search of Devine, Officers recovered suspected cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine.

Officers located drug paraphernalia inside the bag that Devine was carrying.

Devine sustained a cut to his forehead while being placed into custody and was transported to Ascension St Joseph Medical Center by the Lockport Fire Protection District. Devine was released from the hospital a short time later and was transported to the Joliet Police Department for processing and then transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.
