I'm No Squatter, Says Crete Man Suing Neighbor

The Crete man claims his neighbor has been telling people he's a squatter and is trying to drive him from his home.

A Crete man claimed he was subjected to malicious lies by a neighbor who is trying to drive him from his home.

“She popped up at my door one day and she had a whole bunch of people with her,” Christopher Fleming said of neighbor Kathy Quin.

“My kids, they’re afraid of this lady,” Fleming said.

Quin declined to discuss the lawsuit that was filed against her in Will County court.

In the lawsuit, Fleming said Quin called the cops to his East Rietveld Drive home twice in one month “with allegations that are totally false that I am a ‘squatter.’”

“She has come to my home with racial slurs and I felt threatened and intimidated and in fear for my life,” the lawsuit said.

The Will County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that deputies were sent to Fleming’s home on March 13, 26 and 28. The first call was for a property check. The second two were for “suspicious activity” and “possible squatters.”

Fleming said he has owned the house on East Rietveld for years but only recently moved into it.

Fleming also accused Quin of photographing his property, claiming to neighbors that she has been “working diligently to have (him) evicted, and said she “typed up a memorandum slandering (his) name.”

This “constant harassment and witch hunt,” the lawsuit said, is “causing (Fleming) deep mental stress.”
