Indy Shooter Captured in Joliet After Possible Love Triangle Gun Attack: Cops

The gunman shot his former lover at an Indianapolis hotel and then found another man and shot him too, police said.

JOLIET, IL — A jilted boyfriend was captured in Joliet just hours after he allegedly gunned down his former lover at an Indianapolis hotel and then shot another man elsewhere, police said.

Paul Thompson, 38, was in custody at the Will County jail Saturday afternoon while he waits to be shipped back to Indiana.

On Saturday morning, Thompson shot 23-year-old Sarah McKinney at a Marriott in Indianapolis. Paramedics rushed her to Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Hospital where police said she was in critical but stable condition.

“Moments later,” officers found a second person — 37-year-old Darryl Nichols — had been shot at another location. Nichols, who was also taken to Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Hospital, was listed in critical but stable condition as well.

Detectives determined that Thompson went to the Marriott, found McKinney working in the kitchen, shot her repeatedly and fled, police said. Thompson then allegedly found Nichols and shot him too.

Thompson and McKinney were “in the process of breaking-up, have two children in common and (McKinney) had recently obtained” a protective order against him, police said.

Thompson, McKinney and Nichols all work at the Marriott but are on different shifts, police said.

Thompson reportedly also had a Marion County, Indiana, warrant out for his arrest. The warrant charges him with intimidation.
