‘Inebriated’ Pregnant Mom’s Husband Caught Passed Out Drunk in Running Pickup: Cops

He had a half-full bottle of vodka in his lap when the cops found him, police said.

JOLIET, IL — The husband of a woman who left her 2-year-old son home alone while she drove around drunk when she was nine months pregnant was caught passed out in a running pickup truck with a half-full bottle of vodka in his lap, police said.

Daniel Kallio, 35, was unconscious while behind the wheel of a Dodge pickup stopped outside a law firm on McDonough Street west of Houbolt Road about 2:30 p.m. Sunday police said.

Two members of a cleaning crew working at the law firm reportedly noticed the pickup in the parking lot and called the cops. When officers arrived, police said, they found the windows of the pickup rolled down, the engine running and Kallio in the driver’s seat with a half-full bottle of Smirnoff in his lap.

Officers were reportedly unable to rouse Kallio until one of them reached through the window and shut off the ignition. Kallio was then told to step out of the truck but refused, police said.

The officers reportedly pulled Kallio out of the pickup. He struggled, police said, but was eventually handcuffed.

Kallio was subjected to a breath test and was found to be “way above the legal limit,” police said. He was arrested and later released on $100 bail.

Two months ago, Kallio’s wife, Natalie Kallio, was “inebriated” when she left her 2-year-old son home alone and drove around town, police said.

Officers reportedly found the child unharmed in a crib inside the Kallio’s residence on Schriber Avenue. The 2-year-old was taken by the Department of Children and family services and then turned over to Natalie Kallio’s brother-in-law, police said.

Natalie Kallio’s case remains pending.
