The child was strapped into an unsecured safety seat, police said.

An intoxicated Lockport man ran off the road and crashed into a fence while his 2-year-old son was riding in back in an unsecured safety seat, police said.
Joe Garrett, 40, was heading east on Second Avenue when he jumped the curb at the intersection with Boulder Avenue and crashed his 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis into a fence about 8 p.m. Sunday. The fence reportedly wrapped around the car after the impact.
Both Garrett and his 2-year-old son were taken to Presence St. Joseph Medical Center. The child had been strapped into a safety seat, police said, but the safety seat was not secured to the backseat of the vehicle.
