Jackson Street Bridge Closed Next Week

JOLIET, IL — The Jackson Street bridge will close next week for repairs.

The mechanical and electrical repairs are scheduled to start Monday. The bridge will remain completely closed until May 1.

"A posted detour will direct westbound Jackson Street traffic to go north on Scott Street (Illinois 53), west on Ruby Street to cross the river and south on Broadway Street to return to Bridge Street (Jackson Street)," the city said in a press release. "Eastbound Bridge Street (Jackson Street) traffic should take the reverse route."

The closing of the Jackson Street bridge — the fifth of Joliet's six moveable bridges to be repaired as part of a two-year project to overhaul all of them — will not affect marine traffic.
